The Congress on Wednesday promised a slew of opportunities to the youth, including counselling, training and internships, if it comes to power in the municipal corporations.
The sixth and last in a series of manifestos, the “youth manifesto” was released by Delhi Congress president Ajay Maken. It highlighted the need for a focus on the youth, with unemployment and criminal activity by juveniles being seen across in the city.
As per the manifesto, the Congress would set up a separate “Livelihood Security and Compassion Department” with the aim of providing opportunities for the youth, particularly those from the weaker sections of society.
Workshops for dropouts
In addition, the corporations would organise special workshops for school dropouts at municipal schools. To improve their chances, the youths would be given special career counselling. The Congress manifesto also proposed setting up Skill Exchange Centres in each of the 272 municipal wards.
The party also proposed giving young people a glimpse of how the municipal corporations work by providing internships with councillors. Also, to get the youth involved in civic issues, the Congress proposed a “One Ward, One Idea” programme.
