In yet another move to tighten the noose on private schools, the Delhi government has set up a complaint centre to deal with “arbitrary functioning” of schools.
The decision was taken in the wake many complaints against fee hikes, “wrongdoings” in admissions for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) and “bungling” in school records.
A statement issued by the Delhi government read: “Following large-scale complaints from parents about the arbitrary functioning of some private schools, the Delhi government has announced the setting-up of a complaint centre, where parents and members of the public can send their grievances without fear of harassment by school managements.”
The “Private Schools Complaint Centre” will be located at Jhandewalan in Central Delhi. In addition to this, parents and concerned citizens can e-mail their grievances at doe.pvt@gmail.com.
“The process of setting-up this complaint centre was necessitated by recent developments, particularly the takeover notice to two schools and direction to the third private school to roll back its unjustified fee hike,” the statement further read.
“The complaint centre will also cater to large-scale grievances of parents about wrongdoings in the EWS admissions by private schools,” it read.
On Wednesday, nearly 150 parents had met Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who also holds the Education portfolio, to complain against Kalka Public School in Alaknanda over a hike in fee without approval from the government.
