CM seeks suggestions

April 08, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:33 am IST - New Delhi:

A day after it added cars driven by those carrying children in school uniform to the list of categories exempted from the provisions of the odd-even vehicle rationing scheme, the Delhi government was engaged in working out the modalities related to its enforcement.

This, even as Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal took to Twitter to seek citizens’ suggestions on anxiety related to possibility of prosecution of parents not in the company of their uniform-wearing children before picking up or dropping off their wards to school. “Thats a real problem. Looking for a solution. Pl suggest if anyone has any ideas [sic],” he tweeted.

Meanwhile, Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) and other senior government functionaries were summoned to the Delhi Secretariat to discuss details related to the enforcement of the road rationing scheme, implemented between January 1 and 15.

On confusion that may arise due to parents going to pick up children after school, Transport Minister Gopal Rai had on Wednesday said the government was still working on the technicalities and that the matter will be clarified in the final notification to be issued in relation to the scheme “in a day or two”.

An official notification related to the precise modalities of the scheme is expected to be issued by the Office of the Lieutenant Governor, Najeeb Jung, on Friday.
