June 16, 2014 10:14 am | Updated 10:14 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Working towards clearing the backlog of children waiting for adoption, the Union Minister for Women and Child Development (WCD) Maneka Sanjay Gandhi has written to Chief Justices of all High Courts and to all district judges in the country to expedite the legal procedure involved in the adoption process.

There are around 2,400 children waiting for adoption in about 324 specialised adoption agencies. There are over 1,250 children homes in the country.

The Ministry is working to integrate children homes with specialised adoption agencies making older children also available for adoption.

Also, the Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA) website has been integrated with Facebook and the details of Child Welfare Committees and lawyers have been uploaded on the website of CARA.

Meanwhile, two new email accounts and a Facebook account have been set-up by the Ministry for anyone who needs help.

The personal email account of the WCD minister is min-wcd@nic.in and the account of the Ministry of WCD is help-wcd@nic.in. The Facebook account of the Ministry is www.facebook.com/ministry WCD. These accounts have been created to facilitate an interactive exchange between citizens who need assistance of any kind from the Ministry and need to know more about various schemes and programmes of the Ministry.
