Leader of the Opposition (LoP) Vijender Gupta on Monday demanded that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal take immediate remedial steps to “bring order to the completely chaotic” Azadpur fruits and vegetable wholesale market.

Mr. Gupta joined a dharna at the mandi against what he alleged was “corruption and anarchy” in addition to “filth all around”.

Market panel

“Due to the non-inclusion of elected representatives in the market committee, the bureaucracy has become irresponsible leading to total mismanagement. We demand that elected representatives be included in the market panel,” the Rohini legislator said.

He added that the government needed to “immediately transfer officials who are responsible for the prevailing mess” at the market.

Addressing a gathering at the market, the LoP said that if Mr. Kejriwal failed to take appropriate action, he along with other BJP MLAs would go to the Lieutenant-Governor to seek his intervention “and bring order to the Azadpur Mandi”.

“Not only Azadpur mandi, but five other wholesale markets: Keshopur Mandi, Narela Anaz Mandi, Gazipur Murga Mandi, Gazipur Phool Mandi and Gazipur Machli Mandi are suffering from various ills leading to miserable conditions,” he said.
