Civic bodies to crack whip

September 27, 2017 01:57 am | Updated 01:57 am IST - New Delhi

A Supreme Court-appointed pollution control panel on Tuesday directed the municipal bodies in the NCR to crack down on burning of waste in the open, which aggravates air pollution during winter.

The Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control Authority), headed by (retd) bureaucrat Bhure Lal, also directed the local bodies to share action-taken reports with it on a fortnightly basis. The Graded Response Action Plan, which lays down anti-pollution measures, will come into effect from October 15. It prohibits burning of garbage in the open and in landfills.
