The Central Bureau of Investigation will examine the veracity of three complaints lodged by the sacked Delhi Water Minister, Kapil Mishra, on Tuesday against his former Delhi government colleagues.
Mr. Mishra, who submitted the documents to the CBI in three sealed envelops, also threatened to go on hunger strike on Wednesday if details of the foreign visits by five Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) members were not made public.
‘Bribery, irregularities’
Confirming that the agency had received the complaints, CBI spokesperson R. K. Gaur said they pertained to allegations of bribery and irregularities.
As earlier disclosed by the AAP MLA, the first complaint is against CM Arvind Kejriwal and Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain, alleging that he had seen ₹2 crore changing hands. Mr. Jain has threatened to sue Mr. Mishra for defamation.
The second complaint alleges that Mr. Jain helped a close relative of Mr. Kejriwal in a ₹50-crore property deal, while the third seeks investigations into the foreign trips undertaken by AAP leaders in the recent past.
“The CBI is empowered to directly take cognisance of corruption cases filed by private persons, without any reference from the government or the High Court, as it happens in the cases of bribery allegations,” said an agency official.
On Monday, Mr. Mishra had lodged a complaint with the Delhi government’s Vigilance wing, under the Lieutenant-Governor, demanding an investigation into the ₹400-crore “Water Tanker Scam”.
