Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday said the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) of the Delhi government had taken files from the Delhi Jal Board, of which he is the chairperson, in an attempt to “frame” him.

“CBI n ACB started randomly picking files from DJB. No specific enquiry. Becoz now I am Min-in-charge, their effort is somehow frame me in something PM, LG n BJP - If u hv specific info, pl investigate. But don’t victimize Delhi’s people by paralyzing all depts of Del govt. [sic],” Mr. Kejriwal said in a tweet.

Mr. Kejriwal, who had held no portfolios since being sworn in as Chief Minister in February 2015, had taken over the water portfolio and become the DJB chairperson in September 2017.

Seek an appointment

Demanding an explanation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Lieutenant-Governor Anil Baijal, Mr. Kejriwal said in a second tweet: “I will put out in public domain list of all files sought by PM’s CBI n LG’s ACB. PM n LG shud explain reasons for seeking those files. Else they shud apologise to Delhiites for this witch hunting exercise. [sic]”.

Though it was not clear whether he was referring to the same issue, Mr. Kejriwal said in a third tweet that he had sought an appointment with Mr. Baijal on Monday to “discuss some imp matters [sic]”.

When contacted for comment on Mr. Kejriwal’s statement, a CBI official said the agency had not taken any such action. Officials of the ACB could not be reached for comment. The ACB had been under the control of the elected government of Delhi till May 2015, when the Lieutenant-Governor appointed an officer to replace the AAP government-appointed head of ACB.
