Candlelight protest against bank merger

January 11, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:39 am IST - New Delhi:

Over 500 volunteers comprising erstwhile staff of the Gurgaon Gramin Bank will participate in a candlelight protest march from Jantar Mantar here to the residence of Prime Minster Narendra Modi on Sunday.

The volunteers will seek to draw the Prime Minister’s attention to the merger of Gurgaon Gramin Bank and Haryana Gamin Bank in the adjacent State.

“Unconstitutional”

“This amalgamation was against the policy mandated for the purpose because unaudited financial figures of mid-year were considered for it and no constitutional clearance was taken,” the organisers of the march, the Gurgaon Gramin Bank Officers’ Association, said in a statement.

They said they would submit a memorandum of demands for consideration to the PM.

According to the statement, the organisation’s employees from Gurgaon, Faridabad, Mewat, Palwal, Rewari, Sonepat and Mahendragarh will be among the volunteers who will march down to the Prime Minister’s residence on Race Course Road between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Sunday.
