As many as 17 people were injured when a bus they were travelling in toppled after ramming a divider on Shah Aland Band Road here on Monday.

The incident happened around 12.30 a.m., when the bus was going towards Rajasthan.

Injured taken to hospital

Of the 40 passengers, 17 were injured and taken to Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital. They were later discharged.

The police said the passengers were headed to Urs Mela in Ajmer.

The bus driver was arrested and booked for rash and negligent driving under Section 279 of the Indian Penal Code.

“The driver wasn’t under the influence of alcohol but he might have dozed off for a few seconds, because of which the incident happened. Further investigation is under way,” said a senior police officer.

He added the bus was in a bad shape and many of its components had rusted.
