: A 28-year-old man was bludgeoned to death, allegedly by his younger brother, at their rented accommodation in north Delhi’s Burari on Monday.

The victim has been identified as Hitesh Verma, a Sanskrit teacher at PGDAV College. According to the police, Hitesh was attacked with a dumbbell by his brother Himanshu when he was sleeping.

Fatal blow

“When Hitesh resisted, Himanshu pinned him down and kept hitting him till he lost consciousness,” the officer added.

Neighbours informed the police around 3 a.m., nearly an hour after the incident, after Himashu told them that his brother had been killed. When the police arrived at the spot, Himanshu initially told them that two men had barged into their house and killed his brother. They said he had hidden the weapon of offence under his bed.

However, upon sustained interrogation, Himanshu confessed to his involvement in the crime.

The police said the brothers did not share an amicable relationship. “Himanshu objected to the fact his brother wanted to have a say in his life. Hitesh was always ready with advice, to an extent that Himanshu found it annoying,” said a police officer.

Bone of contention

Things took a turn for the worse when two months after he shifted to Delhi from Jhansi, Hitesh met a woman here, after which they started meeting often.

“Hitesh initially hid his friendship with the woman from his brother, as he feared that Himanshu might tell their parents. However, when Himanshu got suspicious, Hitesh told him that he expected his brother to cooperate by allowing them privacy. He also forced Himanshu to stay outside for long hours,” said the officer.

Himanshu initially agreed, but his brother started hosting her frequently. This led to frequent arguments between them.
