One person has died, while four children and two women have been critically injured following a building collapse early Wednesday morning in the Moti Nagar area of West Delhi.

The injured have been rushed to the nearby Acharya Shree Bhikshu Hospital where they are undergoing emergancy care and treatment.

According to the Fire Department "a call was recieved about a cylinder blast and subsequent building collapse (double storey) at around 7:44 a.m. The rescue work was pushed into service almost immediately.''

A senior DFS official said eight fire tenders were rushed to the spot, located in Sudarshan Park, to help with rescue operations.

Prima facie, the collapse seemed to be triggered after a cylinder blast on the first floor which sent it crumbling to the ground.

"We have reason to believe that three to four residents are buried beneath the resultant debris; efforts to rescue them are underway," said a police officer.

The state health minister Satyendar Jain has rushed to the hospital.
