A 22-year-old man employed as an attendant at the house of a BSF Deputy Inspector General allegedly committed suicide by using the officer’s service revolver. The incident came to light on Sunday evening after the victim’s roommate found his body inside the servant room adjacent to the DIG’s house at Sarojini Nagar in South Delhi.
“We got a call in the afternoon informing that a young man was found lying in a pool of blood inside his servant quarter. When a team was sent to the spot, the man was identified as Ganpati. He had shot himself with a revolver. His body was taken into possession and sent for a post-mortem,” said a police officer.
According to the police, Ganpati was employed as an orderly at the residence of DIG Gulshan Kumar, whose service weapon he had stolen. The officer was, however, unaware of the theft. Ganpati’s flat mate Alex told the police: “I had gone to the wash-room in the afternoon when I heard a bullet shot. When I came back, I found my room locked from inside. On breaking the door, I found Ganpati lying in a pool of blood. I immediately informed other people in the house and called up the police.”
No suicide note was recovered and the reason behind the extreme step is not clear.
