Two minor siblings were found murdered in the room of their tenant in Jehangirpuri here on Monday. The tenant is absconding.
Suraj (7) and Gopal (5) were found dead under a cot in the room of their tenant Ashok Gupta around 4 p.m.
“The brothers went for tuition in the morning, following which their parents also left for their jobs. The victims' father Raja Ram is a driver. The parents returned home in the afternoon. When they could not find the children around, they began looking for them. While searching for the children in the neighbourhood, they peeped through a window into Ashok's room and spotted the children's legs under the cot. They broke open the door, which was locked from outside, and found the bodies. It seems the Suraj and Gopal were strangled to death,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-West) Meenu Choudhary.
The police suspect the involvement of Ashok, who is absconding since the incident came to light. Ashok worked as labourer in Udyog Nagar.
The house belongs to Raja Ram's father-in-law and Ashok had been staying as tenant for over five years. The relatives said Ashok was trustworthy and the family had good relations with him.
Preliminary investigation suggested that Ashok, who was staying alone, took his meals Raja Ram's house, but the family had stopped entertaining him for the past two days due to unknown reasons. It is suspected that the same may have angered Ashok.
The police have ruled out sexual assault and sent the bodies for post-mortem. Several teams were dispatched to the possible hideouts of the suspect to trace him, the police said.
A case has been registered at the Jehangirpuri police station.
