Just a few months after its stupendous victory in the Lok Sabha elections in Faridabad, the BJP , riding on the Modi wave, won three of the six Assembly segments in the district.
The Congress, INLD, and the BSP won one seat each .
At Prithla, the BSP’s Tek Chand Sharma defeated his nearest rival and BJP candidate Nayal Pal Rawat by a margin of 1,179 votes. Raghubir Tewatia of the Congress finished a close third with 34,753 votes.
Though former Congress MP Avtar Singh Bhadana, a prominent Gurjar leader, joined the INLD before the Assembly elections and was appointed its national vice-president, the party failed to reap benefits and managed to win only one seat . Nagender Bhadana of the INLD defeated his nearest rival, Pt. Shiv Charan Lal Sharma, an independent, by just 2,914 votes.
At Badkhal, Seema Trikha of the BJP defeated her nearest rival and Congress candidate Mahender Pratap Singh by a margin of over 36,000 votes. At Ballabhgarh, the BJP’s Mool Chand Sharma defeated the Congress’ Lakhan Kumar Singla by a margin of over 53,000. He won with the highest margin among the six Assembly segments . Similarly, Vipul Goel of the BJP defeated the Congress’ Anand Kaushik by a margin of 44,781 votes in Faridabad segment.
Lack of infrastructure and basic amenities were some of the major issues in the district.
At Tigaon, a close contest was witnessed between the Congress’ Lalit Nagar and the BJP’s Rajesh Nagar with the former managing a victory by just 2,938 votes.
