‘BJP vindicated by HC order indicting govt’

Delhi BJP president Vijay Goel says the Congress Government has turned the city “into a slum and rape capital”.

Delhi BJP president Vijay Goel on Wednesday accused the Congress Government of “mismanagement”, citing a recent Delhi High Court order that indicted the government for lack of planning in the city.

The Court’s order, he said, vindicated the BJP’s stand that the government had turned Delhi “into a slum and rape capital”. Mr. Goel said the BJP’s vision comprised of long-term planning, for at least the next 20 years, in all key areas such as power, water, education, health, urban planning, housing and women’s safety.

Court directions

He said in the past 15 years the High Court had heard more than 300 writ petitions and issued directions to the Delhi Government to redress the issues.

“The BJP stands vindicated after the Delhi High Court’s order holding the government responsible for the mismanagement of the city. The BJP has been saying for long that the Congress Government in Delhi has neglected key issues like women’s safety, power, water, sewage, education, health, roads, development in unauthorised colonies and rehabilitation of slum-dwellers.”

“Despite announcements of spending Rs. 2,800 crore, there is a lack of basic amenities in the unauthorised colonies. The water supply and sewage system is non-existent and PWD roads are full of potholes. More than Rs. 3,000 crore has gone down the drain every year in the name of maintenance of PWD roads, whose condition remains pathetic, leading to massive traffic jams, accidents and water-logging,” he said.

Water-logging

Taking a dig at Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit for failing to find a solution to the water-logging problem, he said: “The Chief Minister, ironically, was offering prayers to the rain gods to resolve this problem, which is actually the result of corruption and inefficiency.”

He said the Delhi Jal Board, whose chairperson is the Chief Minister, has failed to provide clean drinking water to nearly half of the city. He added that the power sector was an example of mismanagement and corruption.
