Calling Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung a ‘Super King’, BJP MP Udit Raj on Friday called for his removal for not listening to the views of elected representatives in the national Capital.

The statement, which raised eyebrows within the BJP, had the Aam Aadmi Party taking pot-shots at its rival.

A day after three of his supporters were arrested for allegedly assaulting an IAS officer, the North West Delhi MP said the L-G must be removed because of his “high-headedness”.

“The L-G is behaving like a super king. He must be removed. I will write to the Centre against him. There are only 7 MPs in Delhi. If he will not talk to us, who else will he talk to?,” questioned Mr. Raj, adding that he had to wait for three to four days to talk to Mr. Jung about “serious” public matters.

Asked whether his demand to remove Mr. Jung was related to the assault case, Mr. Raj said it was a separate issue.

About his supporters being removed for allegedly assaulting the North West Delhi District Magistrate Sanjay Goel in outer Delhi's Kanjhawla area on Thursday, the MP accused police of acting under pressure from bureaucrats. He also demanded the transfer and suspension of the District Magistrate of North West Delhi, the DCP of Outer Delhi and the SHO of Kanjhawala.

“Our complaints were not registered despite the DCP assuring me till 10 p.m. that both sides of the case would be heard. The real story is that SC Morcha office bearer Parminder and four others were thrashed when they had gone to talk to the District Magistrate regarding a demolition drive in Kanjhawala,” Mr. Raj said. Earlier in the day, the MP also met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to explain the incident. The alleged assault of Goel after holding him hostage at his office was caught on CCTV camera installed in his office.

Police have registered a case under sections 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions, 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 342 (wrongful confinement), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC based on Mr. Goel’s complaint.

Reacting to the BJP MP’s demand to remove the L-G, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said that instead of making such statements before the media, he should talk directly to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“Udit Raj’s party has its own government .If he wants to remove the L-G, he can. Why is he speaking to the media? He should directly talk to the Prime Minister,” Mr. Sisodia said.
