Delhi BJP MLAs on Thursday courted arrest in the Delhi Assembly premises while holding a protest against the alleged failure of the Delhi Government to prevent cow slaughter in the Capital.
The BJP MLAs, who had been expelled from the Delhi Assembly on Wednesday, took out a protest march within the Assembly premises on Thursday. They were arrested by the police for protesting in violation of the law.
Later in the House, Najafgarh MLA Bharat Singh of the Indian National Lok Dal raised the issue of cows being slaughtered at several parts of the city despite their being revered by a large number of people.
Speaking under Special Mention Rule 280, he demanded that the Delhi Government take action against the wrongdoers. He also said serving of beef to the visiting guests during the Commonwealth Games was an avoidable thing.
Assurance
Delhi Development Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan then assured the House that as per a 1994 Act, the sale of beef was banned in Delhi. Reiterating that “we will not give permission to serve beef'', he said, the assurance had been given earlier also.
With the BJP MLAs not present in the House during Question Hour, the Speaker adopted Rule 42 for the first time and this entitled all the members present in the House to ask questions on any of the issues listed for the day.
Delhi Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely moved a resolution lauding this very democratic action of the Speaker.
