The Bharatiya Janata Party members in the three municipal corporations of Delhi will be protesting against the Aam Aadmi Party-led Delhi Government on Wednesday after their demand for financial help was turned down.
This comes after the Mayors of the BJP-ruled corporations met Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on March 21 to ask for what they call their rightful share of Delhi’s taxes. Mr. Kejriwal told the BJP municipal leaders that the Delhi Government could not spare any funds.
North Delhi Municipal Corporation Mayor Yogender Chandolia said on Tuesday that the Delhi BJP had taken the decision to protest outside the Secretariat after the Chief Minister “ignored” them.
“We had gone to ask for our global share of taxes, but the Chief Minister did not cooperate. Around 150 of our elected representatives in the corporations will stage a dharna outside Delhi Secretariat,” said Mr. Chandolia.
Mr. Kejriwal had asked the Mayors to approach their party’s government at the Centre for help, but the Delhi BJP has decided to pursue the matter with the State government.
Mr. Chandolia said the BJP councillors will meet Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung on Wednesday to ask him to intervene into the matter.
