: Delhi BJP President Satish Upadhyay has criticised the Delhi Government for “playing with the sentiments of farmers” in the matter of distribution of crop loss compensation.
Mr Upadhyay said Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had played a cruel joke on the farmers causing great resentment.
“An expert on scoring political points, Mr. Kejriwal had last month announced hefty compensation packages for the farmers whose crop had been damaged due to weather vagaries. Almost a month later neither has a proper crop loss survey been done nor has any rational basis of compensation been announced. Yet, Mr Kejriwal went ahead to offer cheques of compensation to a few farmers on Friday,” Mr Upadhyay said.
Mr. Upadhyay alleged that in the name of compensation, the farmers have been given petty cheques of Rs. 7,000 for crop loss on four acres and Rs. 14,000 for crop loss on a six acre farms.
“Going by the rates announced, the compensation amount for four-acre loss should be Rs. 76,000 and for six acres it comes to Rs. 1,20,000,” he said.
“In the Mazra Dabas village, where crop loss is almost 100 per cent, only a couple of farmers have been given compensation cheques,” he added.
