Two bike-borne miscreants allegedly snatched a bag from a 27-year-old accountant outside a bank in Sector 18 here on Wednesday, the police said, adding that the bag contained ₹8.20 lakh.

The police said the victim, Bipin Roy, working with a software company in Sector 82, was waiting for a cab after withdrawing the money from the company’s account.

“The incident happened around 12.30 p.m. Mr. Roy was talking on the phone when the bike-borne duo struck. He resisted but was pushed by the accused, who fled with the bag,” said Noida SP (City) Arun Kumar Singh.

The police said Mr. Roy sustained minor injuries in the incident.

Locals informed the police about the incident. Senior police officers reached the spot and launched an investigation.

“We have registered a case under relevant sections of loot and robbery. The victim has stated that the accused had covered their faces. We will scan footage from CCTV cameras in the area for clues,” the police added.

Meanwhile, the traders’ association alleged that the police had turned a deaf ear to their repeated requests for improved law and order situation in the commercial hub. The association blamed the police for lack of security and patrolling in the market.

“Despite a police post, there is lack of patrolling in Sector 18 market. This makes it vulnerable to such criminal activities. There are CCTV cameras at some points, but who is monitoring them? Most of these cameras are not functional. We demand installation of CCTV cameras all over in the market,” said Sector 18 Traders’ Association president Sushil Kumar Jain.

A similar case was reported from Sector 18 market on April 5. The police arrested five persons on April 12 in connection with the alleged false robbery complaint of ₹8 lakh.
