Two bikers were knocked down fatally by a vehicle while another man was injured in a suspected hit-and-run at Alipur’s NH-1 in the early hours of Monday.

According to the police, Suraj Keshri (32) and Rahul died while Lakshu, who is reportedly in his early 20s, sustained injuries. All victims are from Nepal. The deceased lived in rented accommodation in Chirag Delhi, while Lakshu stayed in Jahangirpuri. The driver or the vehicle involved in the incident are yet to be identified.

Victim were drunk

Lakshu, who is undergoing treatment at LNJP Hospital, has not been able to provide a complete sequence of events, leaving the police struggling for clues.

The medico-legal case report has stated that all three victims were drunk at the time of the accident.

“All three had consumed alcohol and were returning from Singhu border when a vehicle hit their motorcycle and drove away. They were lying injured close to Shani Mandir near NH-1 when a passer-by spotted them and called the police control room around 4 a.m.,” said a police officer.

Plans gone awry

Suraj and Rahul were declared brought dead and their bodies shifted to BJRM Hospital for post-mortem. The police have not been able to contact Rahul’s family so far. The victims sold momos in south Delhi for the past decade. They had planned a get together on the day of the incident. Accordingly, Suraj had picked up Lakshu and they met Rahul near Jhangirpuri.

A case of causing death by negligence and rash and negligent driving has been registered against unidentified persons. The police are trying to gather footage from CCTV cameras installed in nearby places.
