A 41-year-old biker was killed after being run over by a truck in Sarita Vihar in the early hours of Thursday.
Around 2.20 a.m., a passer-by made a call to the police control room about an accident on Sarita Vihar road number 13. A police team was rushed to the spot and the man was found lying injured near the DLF Tower.
The victim was identified as Gopal Prashad (41), a resident of Sarita Vihar. He was taken to a nearby hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead. Prashad’s body was sent to AIIMS for post-mortem and his family was informed, said the police.
The errant driver, who was driving a container truck with Haryana registration number, was caught by some passers-by and handed over to the police. He has bee identified as 24-year-old Virender Singh.
The police said Singh hit Prashad’s motorcycle from behind and then ran over him. The truck driver has been booked under Sections 304 A (causing death by negligence) and 279 (rash and negligent driving) of the Indian Penal Code. His truck has also been impounded by the police.
Singh’s blood samples have been sent for medical examination to check if he was drunk, said Mr. Biswal.
