A 23-year-old woman was allegedly raped by an auto-rickshaw driver, who lured her into boarding his vehicle at night on the pretext of dropping her at Anand Vihar ISBT. The alleged incident took place on July 2 while the woman was on her way back home in Bulandshahr.

Anand Vihar ISBT

She reportedly fell asleep while travelling, following which the auto driver raped her. The woman, who is a labourer at a metro construction site in the city, had boarded the auto-rickshaw from Sarai Kale Khan ISBT for Anand Vihar ISBT after agreeing to pay the driver ₹200 for the journey.

On the way, he allegedly offered to help her board a bus as she was carrying luggage. The woman fell asleep during the commute and the driver allegedly used the opportunity to take detour towards Ghazipur. He parked the vehicle at an isolated spot and raped her. She told the police that she woke up to find her clothes removed and the auto driver sitting next to her. When she tried to raise an alarm, the driver allegedly threatened her with dire consequences. He dropped her at Anand Vihar ISBT and warned her against registering a complaint. She, however, managed to note down the vehicle registration number.

Registration number

On Monday, the woman went to the Ghazipur police station to register a complaint and gave the registration number. The police traced the accused to his house and arrested him. She recorded her statement before a Magistrate under Section 164 of the CrPC on Monday, after which a case under Section 376 of the IPC was registered. The police have seized the auto driver’s mobile phone to ascertain whether he took the woman’s photographs.
