Delhi University’s Aryabhatta College will hold a referendum on Friday when its students will decide on whether to affiliate with Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU).

Three committees: the students’ council, disciplinary and support committee of the staff council are taking up different programmes to educate students on the importance of taking part in the referendum.

‘From noon to 3 p.m.’

A notice signed by Principal Manoj Sinha said: “A referendum will be held on September 1 to seek the opinion of students... the referendum time will be from 12 noon to 3 p.m.”.

As soon as the referendum was announced, students belonging to various political outfits began pro-DUSU campaigns to persuade students to vote for affiliation. The DUSU polls will be held on September 12.

The referendum was necessitated after Ram Lal Anand College (evening) turned into a morning college and was re-christened Aryabhatta College in the 2015-16 academic session.

Student outfits of 50 DU colleges, out of around 80, are affiliated to DUSU.
