Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday met the woman who was allegedly beaten up by locals in Narela on Thursday afternoon for being instrumental in organising a raid against one of the attackers for bootlegging.

Mr. Kejriwal met the woman at Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Hospital, where she was recovering from her injuries. The Chief Minister summoned the Excise Commissioner and announced that he would be meeting Lieutenant-Governor Anil Baijal at 4 p.m. to discuss the issue.

Meanwhile, the police have arrested six women in connection with the case. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini) Rajneesh Gupta said: "In total six women have been arrested. Two were taken into custody on Thursday night and four on Friday."

The victim, a 30-year-old member of Nasha Mukti Panchayat, was involved in organising a raid on Wednesday against illegal liquor being sold in the area. She was allegedly beaten up by women of the Sansi community that live in the slum cluster after illegal liquor was found at the home of one of them.

While a video of the victim alleging that she was paraded naked by the attackers surfaced on Thursday, the police have denied the same. However, the police have registered a case of molestation.

On Wednesday, Delhi Commission of Women chief Swati Maliwal along with police officers, the victim and other members of Nasha Mukti Panchayat conducted a raid at Asha and her husband Rakesh’s house, and recovered illicit liquor. “Asha and Rakesh were not at home. Their 19-year-old daughter Shweta was there. A total of 312 quarter bottles and 12 bottles of beer were seized from the spot and a notice was issued to the daughter,” said Mr. Gupta, adding that a case under relevant sections of Delhi Excise Act was registered but an arrest was not made because it was dark.

The victim’s complaint said she was thrashed to to take revenge for the raid.
