At 44.9 degrees Celsius recorded at the Palam weather station, Thursday was a scorching day for Delhiites who have been trying to keep cool during the heatwave that has sent the mercury rising all week.
The official reading taken at Safdarjung weather station had the maximum temperature pegged at 43.2 degrees, five degrees above the normal for this time of the year.
Warm nights
The nights are warm too, with the minimum temperature at 25.5 degrees , which is four degrees above normal. Humidity settled between 53% and 17%.
Some relief from rising temperatures is likely in coming days, with the weatherman forecasting partly cloudy skies on Friday and Saturday with high chance of dust storm/thunderstorm. As per the forecast for Friday, the maximum and minimum are likely to settle between 43 and 26 degrees respectively.
The highest temperature recorded for April in the past decade was on April 26, 2015, when the maximum touched 45.5 degrees.
