All set for a smooth drive

May 08, 2014 12:30 pm | Updated 12:30 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

The Traffic Police is launching their new mobile and web application ‘Delhi Traffic Police’ which will help a commuter report on breakdown of a traffic signal, get instant traffic alerts, calculate exact auto/taxi fare and information on other road related issues.

The upgraded mobile and web service will be officially launched by the Lieutenant-Governor of Delhi Najeeb Jung on Thursday.

The web application is available on the official website of Delhi Police under the tab ‘Traffic Unit’.

It has all the information from traffic circles to major congested corridors, accident prone areas, water logged areas, contact numbers of circle officers and latest traffic advisories.

All these options are available in the mobile application as well.

The application has currently been made available only on Android phones and can be downloaded by going to ‘Playstore’.

Among all the options, the most useful option on the mobile is ‘Fare Calculator’, which will help a commuter calculate the exact fare for a destination.

A commuter just needs to select the name of the place when he boards the auto and then the destination.

The calculator will give the exact fare applicable as per the current meter charge.

For example, if a person needs to go to Patel Nagar from Patel Chowk, the fare should be Rs. 65. Likewise, the fare from Anand Vihar to Dwarka Sector- 1 should be Rs. 250.

A commuter can get to know the exact fare by using this application.

“The auto-drivers always charge Rs. 400 from Anand Vihar to Dwarka Sector-1. Next time they do it, I can just use this application and show them what exactly they should charge and if they refuse I can complain to the traffic police using this application. It is a wonderful application and easy to operate,” said Jagdeesh Saha, a private executive.

Other options, like the circle information, will also come in handy for a driver whose car has been towed away and he/she needs to call up the circle officer of the area for help.
