More than three years after Taare Zameen Par its child actor Darsheel Safary continues to bask in the limelight. When the talented actor is not doing films he is walking the ramp and when he is not doing that he is seen doing advertisements. He was at DLF Promenade in New Delhi this week to walk the ramp for a kids fashion show. He was dressed in a black suit — black trousers to go with a black jacket — and he was at ease with his job. After the show he revealed it was not the first time he had walked the ramp; he has earlier done it for Neeta Lulla and Liliput too.
Darsheel is also doing films, but now that he is 15 he can no longer play a little boy. He is happy, though, with the offers he is getting from the industry. “I have just completed Deepa Mehta's film which has not been yet titled. We shot in Sri Lanka and this is an adaptation of Salman Rushdie's “Midnight's Children”. I have a good role in the film, playing young Salim. The film is likely to be released next year.” Darsheel claims he has other projects also but “cannot reveal the details right now”. He has his own way of selecting the films. Adds he, “For Taare Zameen Par , I was only required to audition but now I am approached by the producers. For Deepa Mehta's film my whole family, my Dad, my Mom, my sister and I went there to have a look at the script. My father liked it and so did the other family members and we said yes, so, it's a family decision and this is the way I select films. I am at an age where studies are my priority so I am not running after films. I shoot only during vacations or weekends and if I have to shoot on weekdays then my tuition teacher comes there.”
Hrithik his favourite
Though Darsheel has worked with Aamir Khan, he is not his favourite. “Aamir Khan is a super hero and my guru too, but Hrithik Roshan is my favourite actor. Besides being a good actor he is also a good dancer. I like dance very much. I would like to do a movie with him too.”
When Darsheel is not shooting, he goes back to school like any other boy. “I go to school regularly, I study in class nine in Green Lawns school in Mumbai. My classmates are very cooperative. If I miss my classes they are always there to help me with the homework or other things.” Before signing out he gives a message for the children: “I want to convey a message to other children that they should have fun, enjoy life and follow their dreams but study hard because it is very important.”
