A local court here on Wednesday sent Nisheet Jha, the husband of Assamese actor and singer 26-year-old Bidisha Bezbaruah, to police custody for a day.

Ms. Bezbaruah, who appeared in several television shows, was found hanging inside her rented accommodation in Sushant Lok Phase-I Block B here on Monday evening.

Abetment to suicide

Mr. Jha, who works with a multinational company, was arrested on Tuesday after a case of abetment to suicide was registered against him based on a complaint by his in-laws.

Sushant Lok Station House Officer Gourav Phogat said Mr. Jha had hidden his mobile phone in Ghaziabad and a police team had been sent to recover it.

Mobile phone

“The mobile phone could prove to be important evidence to ascertain whether Mr. Jha had an affair with his colleague, which eventually led to the death of his wife. Mr. Jha was also taken to the flat where the suicide had taken place,” said Mr. Phogat.

Deepak Mathur, who conducted the post-mortem, said it was a clear case of suicide.

Sonowal condoles death

Meanwhile, Ms. Bezbaruah’s body was taken to Guwahati in Assam on Wednesday and her last rites were performed.

Her brother Kaushik said Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal called up his father Aswini Bezbaruah in the morning to express his condolences. Mr. Sonowal had also spoken to Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Tuesday over telephone seeking thorough investigation in the case.
