A Delhi court on Friday gave more time to the Delhi government’s Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) to conclude its probe against Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal in a case of alleged irregularities in recruitments.

Special Judge Hemani Malhotra gave the agency till August 1 after it requested more time to wrap up probe.

Awaiting sanction

Earlier, the investigating officer in the case had informed the court that further investigation was on, and that the ACB was awaiting sanction to prosecute the other co-accused.

Taking cognisance of the chargesheet filed in January, the court had summoned Ms. Maliwal. She was then granted bail on a personal bond of ₹20,000. “After examining the FIR, statements of witnesses and documents, prima facie there is sufficient evidence to take cognisance of offences under the Prevention of Corruption Act,” the judge had said.

The court had also said that from the material on record, it appeared that the ACB had not identified Ms. Maliwal’s other associates, in connivance with whom the illegal practices were adopted.
