Delhi University’s unit of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) wants to connect with its voters at an “intellectual level” and is hence going to demand a “Presidential Debate”, similar to the one held at Jawaharlal Nehru University.
This was one of the many agendas outlined in their manifesto, released amid much fanfare here on Monday.
“There are CCTVs installed in every college, but still things like eve-teasing and bullying happen. Nobody has the guts to question the DU administration about all this except us,” said ABVP presidential candidate Ankit Choudhary.
Some mud-slinging against their arch rival, the Congress-affiliated National Students’ Union of India, was also in order: “They are throwing freshers’ parties and getting celebrities to campaign for them. Where does all this money come from? It comes from the Swiss bank accounts of their corrupt leadership,” added Mr. Choudhary.
The organisation’s other agendas include new colleges, a secure and free campus, examination reforms, more hostels and better transportation.
For the role of vice-president, the ABVP has fielded Hans Raj College student Gaurav Chaudhary, Bhagini Nivedita College student Ritu Rana for secretary and Law faculty student Raveena Chaudhary for the post of joint secretary.
