AAP protest against north civic body

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers in north Delhi’s Kirari held a protest march against the BJP-led north municipality for allegedly harassing residents in the name of action against unauthorised constructions.

“They have sealed and issued notices to residents and shop owners without issuing any prior warning. This is harassment of the poor as the civic bodies think they can do anything,” said MLA Rituraj Govind, who led the march.

‘Threatened residents’

The legislator also alleged that the officials from the building department of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation threatened the residents.

“The protest was against the terror that the municipalities have created in the minds of the residents here. What will the municipality gain by demolishing the houses of the poor? If something is illegal, then proper procedure should be followed and time must be given. This is a ploy to fill the pockets of the municipal officials,” Mr. Govind said.
