: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Delhi government has proposed to construct an elevated cycle track in South Delhi to promote cycling among citizens in addition to bettering last-mile connectivity in the Capital, Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Satyender Jain said on Monday.

According to Mr. Jain the said stretch would be about 10-12 kilometre long and have stations at about every one and-a-half-km distance to hire a bicycle. “Designs of the project have been prepared by consultants. This is the first time that an elevated cycle track is being constructed in the country,” the Minister said.

As per the plan, the proposed elevated corridor would be made of steel and is based on similar tracks being tested at some European cities, said Mr. Jain even as he refused to divulge the location of the said track.

Replete with lifts which can be used to access it, the track would also allow the usage of personal cycles. The minister further said that the government would provide a cycle to riders free of cost at the elevated track which, after usage, would need to be deposited back at the station from where it had been procured.
