MLAs of the ruling Aam Aadmi Party on Tuesday objected to the presence of many officers in the gallery of the Delhi Assembly, something which Speaker Ram Niwas Goel said he would have a discussion about later in the session.

While a motion to call attention to an incident at Ghazipur landfill was being heard, Okhla MLA Amanatullah Khan interrupted the proceedings to raise the issue of several officers in the gallery.

Chief Secretary missing

“The Chief Secretary was called to attend, but instead there are several officers, DMs filling the gallery. Why are they all in the Assembly? They want to put pressure on us,” said Mr. Khan.

He added that another MLA, Prakash Jarwal, and he had spent days in jail after being arrested for their alleged assault on the Chief Secretary last month.

“Because of their lie, two MLAs were in jail...Now, they are trying to pressure us,” he said.

Mr. Goel then said he would give time for a discussion on the matter. The session, which started on March 16, will continue till March 28.

The Chief Secretary and the Revenue Secretary had been asked by the Speaker to be present.

In the past, members of the House have asked officials to be present while matters related to their departments are being discussed.
