Aam Aadmi Party MLA Alka Lamba was attacked with stones near Rajghat on Sunday morning. Ms. Lamba was rushed to Aruna Asaf Ali Hospital. Her condition was out of danger, the police said.

Ms. Lamba and her supporters had started an anti-drug drive from Yamuna Bazar in Kashmere Gate area around 5 a.m.

She told police that she suspected a man she had noticed standing above a sweet shop.

Madhur Verma, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North), said the police have arrested the suspect who has been identified as 23-year-old Jatin. “The suspect works at the sweet shop. He has been booked under IPC Section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt),” said the officer.

AAP leader Ashutosh took to Twitter to allege that the sweet shop from which Jatin was nabbed belongs to BJP MLA from Vishwas Nagar Om Prakash Sharma. He later told a news agency that he was not accusing anyone but just demanding that it be cleared whether the incident was a coincidence or a conspiracy.

Ms. Lamba had defeated her closest rival BJP’s Suman Kumar Gupta by more than 18,000 votes during the Delhi Assembly elections earlier this year.
