The Aam Aadmi Party has accused the Delhi Police of shielding BJP MLAs and their kin. Addressing the press at the Constitution Club here on Monday, AAP leaders Manish Sisodia, Sanjay Singh and Ashutosh trained the guns on the ruling party and the police citing three recent cases.
“Rajinder Nagar MLA R.P. Singh called a Delhi Jal Board junior engineer and asked him to do illegal activities. The latter refused and was thrashed up by Mr. Singh. The police are yet to act on the FIR filed. One of those accused of murdering Manipur youth Akha Salouni is the nephew of BJP MLA Ramvir Singh Biduri. Why are BJP workers gathering outside the Kotla Mubarakpur police station and making statements to prejudice the investigation?” Mr. Ashutosh asked.
Mr. Bidhuri, when contacted, hit back at the AAP’s politics of slander. “They are a bunch of liars. I am from Tughlakabad village and the incident happened in Kotla Mubarakpur. I don’t have any nephew involved in the case. They should name the accused. Ashutosh is indulging in the kind of cheap politics everyone now associates AAP with.”
During the press meet, the AAP also defended its stance on the poster issue. “There is not one road in the city where Narendra Modi’s posters are not found. But the police arrest only AAP workers for pasting posters,” party leader Sanjay Singh said.
AAP Delhi secretary Dilip Pandey and others were arrested for incitement earlier this month when posters targeting Muslim MLAs of the Congress from Okhla, Seelampur and Mustafabad appeared in their constituencies.
On Monday too, four AAP men were arrested on defacement charges for sticking posters of their August 3 rally in Malviya Nagar.
“For the police who behave as if this is Gujarat, I remind them that 35 officers there are now in jail,” Ashutosh cautioned.
