Seventeen international artistes from France, Germany, Afghanistan, South Korea, Japan and India have been selected to showcase their works at multiple venues in the city as part of the East to West Festival.
The festival was inaugurated at the Alliance Francaise with an art show, which is also a part of the Francophonie Week celebration at the cultural centre.
The festival is a culmination of street art, performance, installation, photography, dance, video art and painting. It will provide a glimpse into what emerging artistes from various countries are producing.
The show titled “Social Animal” seeks to study relationships and different social conditions. The festival is a project of a sharing experiment through the eyes of the next generation artistes who invite the viewer to discover an alternative view of the world.
The other events of the festival are spread across various venues in the city. The Japan Foundation will host a show “Mind the Gap” by Ema Kawanago (Japan) and Koustav Nag (India) from March 20 while the Korean Cultural Centre will host ‘Dramascope’, a solo show by Narae Jin (South Korea) from March 24.
Niv Art Centre in Neb Sarai will host a group show from March 28 and a solo show by Hanifa Alizada (Afghanistan) titled ‘Before Our Own Eyes’. There will be an art movie night at Alliance Francaise on April 1.
The exhibition is a collaboration between Painting-Bordeaux and NIV Art Centre in partnership with Alliance Francaise, City of Bordeaux, General Council of Gironde, Korean Cultural Centre, Japan Foundation, French Institute of Paris, French Institute of Afghanistan, Embassy of India in Afghanistan, Artistik Rezo, and Samsung.
