Man booked for attempt to murder held

The Crime Branch has arrested a criminal who went absconding after allegedly inflicting a gunshot injury on a passerby who intervened in a fight.

The incident took place this past week.

“We have arrested one Jitender who was booked in an attempt-to-murder case. Jitender and his accomplice Gaurav had opened fire on the complainant, Keshav, on January 5,” said Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav.

It was around 9.50 p.m. when a PCR call about a man being shot at with a pistol was received at the Karol Bagh police station.

“The injured was shifted to Lady Hardinge Hospital. Injured Keshav Kumar said that two persons were beating a boy in Shiv Nagar, Karol Bagh. He tried to intervene, but the assailants opened fire at him and fled,” said Mr. Yadav.

Jitender was arrested on January 7 after the police were tipped-off about his movements near Sarai Rohilla railway bridge.

“During interrogation, Jitender said that he and his accomplice Gaurav were beating the boy when Keshav tried to intervene. Annoyed, they shot at him with a pistol and fled from the spot,” said Mr. Yadav.
