Increase in withdrawal limit draws lukewarm response

January 17, 2017 01:30 am | Updated 01:30 am IST - New Delhi:

The increase in cash withdrawal limit from ATMs to ₹10 thousand a day has elicited a mixed reaction from Delhiites. While some welcomed it, others appeared nonchalant.

“It is a move that counters demonetisation. The increase in withdrawal limit will do us no good until ATMs have enough cash. It is a good move for bulk payments, but only if the circulation of ₹500 notes increases,” said Abhishek Sharma, a south Delhi resident.

‘ATMs should have cash’

However, Ravi Prakash Singh welcomed it saying that bulk payments would become easier. “We were used to a high withdrawal limit; the increase in the limit is a comforting move,” he said.

Ravi Sharma, a resident of Shastri Nagar in north Delhi, said he did not see any point behind the move. “The announcement is useless unless ATMs have enough cash,” he stated.

“This is a good move for domestic purposes even though most payments are being made through digital portals now. But, this will help in emergencies,” said Shikha Chawla.

For Vaishali Singh, who is a student, the increase in withdrawal limit will not mean much of an impact. However, she did say that it would ease out the situation for her parents.

“Things will get easier now. We would not have to stand in ATM lines daily. This is a relief, said Era Hashia, a resident of ITO.
