A 57-year-old ex-serviceman allegedly shot at and injured his son at his house in Patel Nagar here on Friday following a minor altercation. The man sustained four bullet injuries and is said to be in a critical condition.
Shot 4 times
According to the police, Jagdish Chandra fired four times at his son Mordhwaj from his licenced revolver around 9 p.m. after the altercation. Mr. Mordhwaj returned home late on Friday evening in a drunken state and allegedly picked a fight with his parents.
Beat up parents
He allegedly beat up his parents and also grabbed Mr. Jagdish's revolver kept in the wardrobe. Mr. Mordhwaj allegedly tried to shoot his father, but his mother foiled the attempt. Mr. Jagdish then snatched the revolver from his son and opened fire at him.
Father calls PCR
“While two bullets hit Mordhwaj in the abdomen, two others hit him on the back when he tried to escape,” said Station House Officer, Civil Lines Police Station, Inspector Jaipal. Mr. Jagdish then called up the Police Control Room to inform about the incident. He also informed his friends who took Mr. Mordhwaj to a private hospital.
‘Given to drinking’
A case of attempt to murder has been registered against Mr. Jagdish, who is absconding, at the Civil Lines Police Station. The neighbours purportedly told the police that Mr. Mordhwaj, who holds a degree in law, was given to drinking and often misbehaved with his parents and others in the locality.
Jagdish has four children — two sons and two daughters — of whom Mr. Mordhwaj is the youngest, and the only one who is unmarried and living with his parents.
