Commuters continued to face difficulties in hiring cabs in Delhi-NCR as the strike called by Ola and Uber drivers entered its sixth day on Wednesday.
The Delhi government will hold talks with representatives of Sarvodaya Driver Association of Delhi (SDAD), which has called the strike against “low fares” and “lack” of basic amenities provided by app-based taxi aggregators, on Thursday.
No cabs
SDAD claims to represent 1.5 lakhs drivers, who works with Ola and Uber, in Delhi-NCR.
During morning and evening peak hours, cabs were not available on both Uber and Ola apps. On routes where taxis were available, the companies were resorting to surge pricing.
Thousands of drivers are on strike since Friday demanding an increase in fares from the existing ₹6 per km and also discontinue the 25% commission the app-based aggregators charge on every booking.

“On Wednesday, two representatives from the Delhi government approached us and fixed a meeting with government officials on our all demands. Our union will remain on strike till our issues are properly addressed,” SDAD vice-president Ravi Rathore said.
Later in the evening, a purported audio emerged in which SDAD president Kamaljeet Gill and a representative from a app-based aggregator were heard discussing the ongoing strike. In the audio,
Mr. Gill purportedly asked for a written assurance from the company representative and allegedly said: “We don’t give any importance to the Delhi government or Transport Minister Satyendar Jain... We want a written assurance.” — PTI
