The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has managed to save ₹87 crore on a new sewage treatment plant that is coming up near Coronation Pillar in Mukundpur.
Biggest and cheapest
As per a statement by the Delhi government on Wednesday, the plant will be Asia’s largest sewage treatment plant as well as the cheapest.
The plant, which has the capacity to treat 70 million gallons of sewage per day, had a projected cost of ₹602 crore, but the contract for the work was awarded for ₹515 crore, leading to a saving of ₹87 crore. The plant will also be cheaper compared to the DJB’s other sewage treatment facilities.
More savings
For instance, the DJB incurs a cost of ₹13.75 crore to treat 1 million gallons of sewage a day at its Nilothi plant, while the figure for the Coronation Pillar plant will be ₹7.35 crore.
The project is expected to be completed in 30 months.
