Members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Tuesday protested outside Ramjas College in Delhi University against an event that had Umar Khalid, a PhD scholar at Jawahalala Nehru University and student activist who was arrested on charged of sedition last year, as a speaker.

The two-day seminar is organised by Wordcraft, the Literary Society or Ramjas College on “Cultures of Protest” a series of seminars exploring representations of dissent in literary productions.

“The protests by the right-wing student group turned violent and organisers of the event were locked inside the conference room while a session was on. They started pelting stones and throwing bricks at the windows,” said a student of Ramjas College present inside the conference room.

Subsequently Mr. Khalid cancelled his participation.

Mr. Khalid alleged that over 100 ABVP ativists gathered at the College campus to create disturbances. “What is ABVP scared of?. A discussion was on the war against adivasis?”, he said.
