A four-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by a classmate on the premises of a school in south-west Delhi’s Dwarka on November 17, the police said on Wednesday.

The girl’s mother has alleged that the school did not consider seriously her complaint alleging that her daughter was digitally raped and refused to help her. Stating that it was sensitive case, the Delhi Police said legal action will be taken.

“The complainant has stated that her four-year-old daughter complained of pain in the private parts on her return from school on November 17. She initially thought the child was throwing a tantrum. When the pain aggravated the next day and the girl did not stop crying, the mother got worried. The girl then told her mother about the incident,” said a senior police officer.

According to the woman, her daughter told her that a male classmate opened her pants and touched her undergarments. He later assaulted her sexually though she tried to push him away. The girl also told her mother that there was no governess or attendant around to help or save her.

Text message to teacher

Even as the child’s family members were informed about of the incident, the mother sent a text message to her daughter’s teacher. She also informed the teacher about the incident. The mother alleged that the teacher was not forthcoming with assistance despite being informed about the incident.

“The mother has claimed the principal did not take her call and later passed the buck to the school counsellor. The principal also added that the counsellor might help the child get over the trauma but kept on avoiding her,” the officer said.

Meanwhile, the child has undergone medical examination. The mother met a counsellor from the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) and registered a case against the school administration. “The principal refused to share details about the boy or his family. When a parent sends their child to a school, their safety lies in the hands of the school. Their irresponsible behaviour was as if it was a case of loss or damage to property,” the mother in her police complaint. According to the police, a case under Section 376 (rape) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act) has been registered.
