A 4-year-old girl died after she allegedly slipped from the balcony of her 10th floor flat in Indirapuram’s Jaipuria Sunrise Greens society on Monday evening, the police said on Tuesday.

Mira Sachdeva was alone at home at the time of the incident, they added.

‘An accident’

The police are treating the incident as an accident, with officers at Indirapuram police station saying it was a mishap.

The police said Mira’s father Manish Sachdeva, a property dealer, was in office; mother Neha, a French teacher, had gone to teach children; and her elder sister, aged around 10-12 years, had gone for tuition classes when the incident happened.

“Ms. Neha left to teach children on Monday evening and asked her elder daughter to babysit Mira. The elder daughter too left for tuition classes, leaving Mira alone at home,” said Tanu, a relative.

She added, “The 4-year-old was asleep when her elder sister left. She must have woken up and gone to the balcony as the main door was locked. She dragged a chair to the balcony, climbed on it to look down and must have slipped in the process.”

‘Alarm raised’

The federation of Association of Apartment Owners (AOA members) of Sunrise Greens said the incident happened around 5.30 p.m.

Pradeep, the security guard of F block in the society, said, “I heard the sound of something hitting the ground and thought some construction material had fallen from someone’s balcony. When I saw the girl lying on the ground, I raised an alarm and informed the security incharge.”

The security incharge took Mira to a hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival.

“Panic gripped the society as no one knew what had happened. One of the security guards identified the flat where the victim lived. He rushed to the 10th floor but the house was locked. He asked the neighbours to call Mira’s parents. Her mother went to the hospital as soon as she received the news,” said Ravindra Saini, member of the society’s AOA.

A relative said the family had shifted to the rented apartment in F block four months back. They lived in another block earlier.
