The Transport Department has seized 239 tractor trailers in just two days as part of a special drive against such vehicles, which ply in the Capital in violation of the Motor Vehicle Act.
Multiple teams
According to a senior official, 20 enforcement teams were deployed at multiple locations, especially outer Delhi, to affect the crackdown against “illegal tractor trailers.”
“The tractor trailer requires a special permit and should be separately registered, which was not the case with regard to the seized vehicles,” said the official, adding that most of these vehicles were found transporting building material and were running on diesel.
Invalid PUCs
“These vehicles were also found operating without valid PUCs,” the official added.
The official said the drive was launched to crackdown on such vehicles, which have been involved in a number of fatal accidents in the city recently.
Other violations
In many instances, the official said, it was found that the vehicles were not designed to carry heavy loads, but were doing so in violation of the law.
According to the department, similar drives carried out in Delhi recently had seen 576 tractor trailers being seized, of which 293 were confiscated in June and 283 up to July 15.
