An 11-year-old boy allegedly committed suicide at his house in SGM Nagar here on Monday.
Prakeet, a Class V student of GBN School, was found hanging from the ceiling fan with his mother’s saree at around 8 p.m. when his parents returned home.
Suicide note found
In a suicide note recovered from the spot, the boy said that his parents loved him very much and bid them goodbye.
“Prateek had gone to the market with his mother Suman and younger brother on Monday evening.
His mother and brother then went to their uncle’s home in the same locality, but Prateek returned home saying that he had homework to complete. His father was at work at a workshop,” said Investigation Officer, Sub-Inspector Mahavir Singh, posted at the SGM police station.
When Suman retuned home, they found the house latched from inside. When repeated knocks at the door did not elicit any response, a boy from the neighbourhood jumped the wall of the house to enter inside and opened the house.
“When they went inside, they found Prateek hanging from the fan. The matter was reported to the police around midnight,” said the policeman.
The family alleged that it seemed to be a case of murder. “It is very unlikely for a child of his age to take an extreme step. The circumstances also indicate that he was murdered and then hanged. There were strangulation marks around his neck and the knot was loose. Also, the fan is at a height of several feet. He had apparently placed a chair on two pillows to reach the fan. But it is difficult to balance a chair on two pillows,” said Prateek’s cousin Deepak.
Poor in studies
He, however, conceded that Prateek was not good at studies and was scolded by his father a day ago.
The police, however, denied any foul play.
“There were no injury marks on the body, and the bed sheet, flower pots and other stuff in the room were not disturbed. Had it been a murder, there would have been signs of resistance. The suicide note has been sent for forensic examination. We will also question his teachers in this connection.”
