A 28-year-old man died and five others were injured when their SUV rammed a mini truck while taking a U-turn in south Delhi’s Mehrauli on Tuesday night.

The police found liquor bottles in the car and suspect that the driver was inebriated.

According to the police, the SUV was being driven in a rash and negligent manner and it rammed the mini truck and three stationary trucks parked on the road in Chhatarpur in Mehrauli.

Two friends critical

The incident happened around 10.30 p.m. Six persons were travelling in the SUV at the time of the accident. One person died on the spot while five others were injured in the crash. The police have identified the deceased as Sudhir alias Sameer (28).

Two of his friends – Irfan Ali (26) and Arvind Singh (27) – are critically injured. A police team reached the spot and rushed the injured to AIIMS Trauma Centre.

‘Car was speeding’

According to the police, the car was moving at a high speed towards Chhatarpur when the driver allegedly lost control while taking a U-turn and rammed the car into the mini truck and the other parked vehicles. Such was the impact of the collision that one of the trucks parked on the roadside was pushed towards the central median.

Some passers-by informed the police about the accident. Sudhir and the five others were into a business of supplying building material in south Delhi.

The police have seized the vehicle and initiated a probe into the matter.
