The construction of a new Samathuvapuram at Sikkarasampalayam village in Sathyamangalam block is progressing steadily.
The district administration is building a total of 100 houses on a 8.5-acre land allotted for the new Samathuvapuram.
Apart from creating basic amenities, the administration is also establishing a park and a children's play area in the site.
A sum of Rs. 2.02 crore was sanctioned by the State Government for the construction of houses, laying of tar roads, creating provision for drinking water supply and construction of an overhead tank.
District Rural Development Agency Project Officer N. Srinivasan said that the works were expected to be completed by the end of January.
“We have completed 60 per cent of the works so far,” he said.
The works were being reviewed constantly by the district administration with senior officials regularly visiting the site, the official added.
The selection of beneficiaries for the allotment of houses would be made in a transparent manner, officials said. Meanwhile, efforts were on to allot the houses, which were vacant in the existing five Samathuvapurams in the district, they added.
